Orion is proud to announce that we were recently named to the FierceWireless “Fierce 15” list for 2015. The “Fierce 15” highlights and honors some of the most innovative and promising privately held wireless companies, as selected by FierceWireless editors. Editors Sue Marek, Mike Dano and Phil Goldstein declared Orion to be among the top emerging wireless firms in 2015, representative of an evolution in the industry.
A recent FierceMarkets blog post explains the history and significance of the “Fierce 15”: “…a number of companies that have been selected as winners in the past have gone on to become publicly traded companies or have had huge success as privately held firms. The awards celebrate the spirit of being ‘fierce’–championing innovation and creativity, even in the face of intense competition.”
In their “Fierce 15” profile of Orion, FierceWireless editors explain why they think Orion is worth watching in 2015 and beyond: “Orion is riding the white-hot wearables trend in the mobile industry, crystallized by the new Apple Watch. But the company is providing a service–group voice communications–that has been in demand in one form or another since the days of Nextel Direct Connect.” They emphasized how the Orion app and accessories provide a service that engages and empowers users: “[Orion’s CEO and co-founder] Jesse Robbins is hoping to emulate some giant names in the mobile industry: Nextel, BlackBerry and iPhone. Each of these companies created a service that was so compelling that users worked to sign up their friends, family and coworkers.”
“We want to help groups seamlessly communicate and keep people in the moment,” Jesse said, elaborating on some of the founding team’s motivations in developing Orion “There are dozens of communication apps, but they all require you to look down at your phone. We believe the future of wireless communication is real-time, hands-free, device-to-device direct connection, with voice playing a central role.”
