About Orion

Who we are

Orion Labs is a San Francisco company dedicated to connecting people, organizations and machines through seamless voice communication without boundaries. Our voice platform delivers greater collaboration between individuals, groups and machines in real-time, anywhere in the world. Through our push-to-talk hardware and real-time voice platform, we deliver a heads-up and eyes-free experience to help people communicate more efficiently, without losing focus, for higher productivity. Orion Labs was founded by cloud infrastructure pioneers Jesse Robbins and Greg Albrecht, who were inspired by years of experience using traditional radio communications as firefighters and EMTs.

“Finally, someone created the communicator from Star Trek. Each employee in the office wears one, and if anyone taps the device (which you clip to your shirt), everyone can hear. It’s ideal for companies in which everyone needs to communicate quickly on a project.”

“LTE chipmaker Sequans Communications and Orion Labs, a leader in communication technology have announced a strategic partnership to bring the power of LTE-M to wearable devices for the first time.”

“An unlimited antenna range, a sleek AF design and Bluetooth connectivity make this the Tesla of walkie talkies — ideal for his next trip to the mountains.”

“Turns your phone into a walkie-talkie. Connects via Bluetooth. Works great for road trips, hiking, and camping.”

“The Onyx Smart Walkie Talkies from Orion Labs are a pair of button-sized, touch-activated devices that pair with your smartphone and a free app. Hook them up, invite friends and you can activate it with a single touch and broadcast to as many people as you want.”

“Imagine a walkie-talkie, but cooler. Heck, imagine a phone but cooler.”

“The Onyx is beautifully designed and super useful. Perfect for anyone in your life who needs to be connected and is always on the go (so: everyone).”

“This smart walkie-talkie will redefine the way that you communicate with the GirlBoss in your life, and the way that she communicates with her team.”

“Amazon’s Alexa is boldly going where no voice assistant has gone before.”

“This could be extremely helpful if you were at a trade show for work, and wanted to locate colleagues. Or you went to Disneyland with family, and got separated from the rest of the group. You could find them with just the push of a button, and even let them know which ride you were heading to next.”

“Orion Labs’ Onyx is a single-touch wearable that addresses communication challenges we face on a daily basis. The device makes it simple to talk with anyone, anywhere in the world instantly, as if you were in the same room.”

“When you ride or hike in a group, it’s only natural for people to get spread out over the course of the day based on everyone’s individual pace. So how do you communicate with each other when needed? Sure, you could call each other on the phone or carry a set of walkie talkies. But Onyx gives you a much easier option with a simple wearable that enables instant voice communication between everyone in your party.”

“A web-enabled walkie talkie from San Francisco-based startup Orion Labs just might make tap-to-talk communication cool again. The device, called the Onyx, connects via Bluetooth to an Android or iOS device running the Orion app.”

“The design of the Onyx is just as innovative as its technology. Along with its diminutive size, it features a unique clip that allows it to be worn on a shirt, jacket, or as a necklace or connected to a bag strap–easily changing to fit the situation.”

“Great for travel, festival or sporting events, or even staying in communication with your family, the Onyx is the adult walkie-talkie you’ve been waiting for.”

“Here’s where the Onyx is different from those methods. While you need a phone for the app to work, you don’t need to hold it in your hand. The phone can stay in your pocket, a bag or on the car seat next to you. Activating the system involves touching the badge button, so you just need to have that somewhere near your fingers (heck, pin it to your Starfleet uniform so you can act just like Captain Picard).”

“The practicality of Onyx is superb, not to mention the fun-factor. You won’t have to worry about having to wash your hands (when cooking) to send an instant message reply nor get your phone out or wear an earpiece when driving. Simply push a button and talk!”

“The Onyx from Orion Labs is a lightweight, pendant-sized telecommunication accessory that allows you to communicate with friends instantly via bluetooth connection — tech-savvy and très chic.”

“This new Bluetooth-connected communication device from Orion Labs is very cool. Essentially, the Onyx badge is a walkie-talkie. It uses your phone to establish a connection and works just like those old Nextel walkie-talkies. Give one to a friend or workout buddy, so time or distance can separate you. I used it to go camping and found it was helpful when hiking or running in groups.”

“For real-time communication that does not require constantly looking at your phone, check out Onyx by Orion Labs.”

“Instantly talk to other people in other locations simply by pressing a button on your lapel or collar.”

“Works anywhere with a data connection, so whether you’re next door or halfway around the world, you can easily communicate with friends and travel companions without having to deal with the fiasco of group texting.”

“Other Bluetooth devices have allowed people to talk hands-free for years… But none have offered the ability to manage groups of users across different networks and locations without having to purchase special mobile phone contracts.”

“The experience of using the Onyx is very much like using a walkie talkie, but without the static interference, and limited range inherent with walkie talkies.”

“It’s like a wearable walkie-talkie with as much range as your data plan provider (or Wi-Fi) supplies.”

“Unlike traditional walkie-talkies, you’re never out of range (as long as you have a signal) and you’re always on a private channel.”
